Year 5 Africa Project

Year 5's topic this term was Africa, and in our art lessons they have looked at pattern and symbols in African fabrics and created their own beautiful patterns...

... and looked at Adinkra fabrics from Ghana. These fabrics are made up of many different symbols, all of which have special meaning for the wearer.

They made some beautiful drawings of African animals...

...and made wonderful collaborative maps of the African continent using paint, print and typography skills.

Exhibition of Art from East Wickham at The Berwick Rd Gallery

There was a fantastic turn-out of children, parents and staff to the opening of the East Wickham year 1 and year 5 exhibition on Wednesday. Everyone was greatly impressed by all the amazing work the children had produced - it looked fabulous!

Year 1 charcoal bears
Year 5 texture and print 'Iron Woman' collages

Year 1 fabric and print collages

Year 5 cardboard buildings

Year 1 magical birds

Year 5 cardboard sculptures

All year 1 and year 5 classes visited the gallery during school time to take part in some activities:

Year 1 were inspired by Henri Matisse's cut-outs and Patrick Heron's paintings. They made their own cut-outs and added them to the display in the gallery.

The most colourful pile of rubbish!

A collaborative cut-out from year 1

Year 5 were looking closely at the artwork in the gallery and learning about making connections and curating a space
