This week in 2K we were looking at different kinds of maps that contain different sorts of information like this map, which is all about lost gloves from the Mapping Manhatten Project.

or this map about a dog dreaming of chasing squirrels!

We made some memory maps of our own about similar kinds of things, some of them nice memories and some were a bit sad. This beautiful map is showing us where

a hairband was lost in the classroom.

This one is about falling over in the playground and hurting yourself.

Some more sad maps about lost things....

There were some happier memory maps like this colourful one about a first football match.

                               Or this one which is about remembering playing with friends.

Then after break we finished off making our beautiful, huge map of the playground which is all about

 found things.

It contains all sorts of information about the things that we have found in the playground in the last couple of weeks. Well done 2K!

This week was 5A's turn to look at the details of Tudor paintings, make a glossary and make some beautiful abstract paintings.

 The Tudors had globes in their paintings to show that they had travelled the world. They made Europe stand out as they thought it was the most important place

This lovely detailed drawing above is of a polyhedral sundial. It was a complicated instrument that was used to tell the time when the sun was in lots of different positions.

The instrument in the drawing above is a Lute. The Tudors had musical instruments in their portraits to show that they were educated.

 This is detail of Queen Elizabeth's elaborate dress from a painting by Isaac Oliver. The dress is covered in embroidered eyes and ears to show that the queen was watching over her subjects. Actually she had a network of spies who did this for her.

5A used viewfinders to study the paintings and find an area they liked....

 ...these paintings are scaled-up pieces of jewellery and details of rich fabrics and embroidery.

Well done year 5, you have all produced some beautiful work.

Now year 5 have all completed their first art lessons, next week we will be looking at the designs on Tudor clothes to create our own pattern. We will then print these onto paper to make our own ruffs.

 We had a fantastic morning in Mrs. Kelly's class this week. We are continuing with our project about maps.
We began by making some water colour paintings of some of the objects found last week in the playground.

They worked very carefully to mix colours and made some lovely paintings with subtle tones and brighter ones too!

We looked at the similarities and differences between our collections and thought about how to describe them.

After break we made a beautiful, big map of the playground.

In Year 5

This week Miss Slater's class 5S were looking at Tudor paintings. They made a glossary by doing some beautiful drawings of the objects and writing what we had learnt about the meanings of the objects.

They used oil pastels to colour them...

Then we used viewfinders to look at details on Tudor paintings

 And we mixed the paint to get just the right colours

 Paint was very expensive in Tudor times, especially black, blue and red

Rich Tudors would wear fabrics in these colours to show off their wealth

5S made some beautiful abstract paintings of the objects and details of the fabrics

Hello! This is our blog for the Welling School Art Outreach Team aka. Jo and Rachael.

Over the coming year, we will be spending our Wednesday mornings at East Wickham Primary School, working with students and teachers in the classroom; looking at art,  thinking about art...and doing art!

After what seemed like ages planning and ordering lots of supplies...we finally started at East Wickham Primary School in Welling a couple of weks ago.

It was fantastic to meet the children at last, and I think everyone had a great morning.

Year 2 are looking at maps and started by making trails in the playground- look very closely!

Then they collected some interesting things they'd found along the way...

They thought about how they might sort their collections...

   

and made some really beautiful, detailed drawings of them.

In Year 5 we were looking at the Tudors:

This week in Miss McGuinness' Class

We began by looking at Tudor paintings like The Ambassadors by Holbein, and Elizabeth I Rainbow Portrait by Isaac Oliver.

We looked at the objects in the paintings and thought about what they might mean....

and we worked together to create a glossary.

Then we used viewfinders to look closely at details and colours in the paintings

and we mixed our colours....

to make some striking and colourful abstract paintings.
