This week in 2T, we looked at the work of artist Sara Fanelli. She has made some really interesting work about different kinds of maps, like this one below which is a map of a day.
We talked about the way she divided parts of the day into different stripes and the children thought about how they might divide up their day.

The children made some stripe paintings and spent a lot of time mixing up colour carefully and thinking about where to put it...

I like the subtle colours in this painting.

And this one has wonderfully rich colour..

5S Tudor-Inspired Photographic Portraits and Large Drawings

This Week 5S were making Tudor-inspired photographic portraits and working on giant collaborative still-life drawings.

These wonderful drawings were created from charcoal, chalk, fine-liner pens and collage. 5S looked really carefully and noticed lots of lovely details.

Here are some of 5S's beautiful photographic portraits:

Well done 5S - all the portraits are wonderful, unfortunately there is only room for a few on the blog!

This week it was 2T's turn to to spend the next 3 Wednesday mornings doing art.
First we looked and talked about different kinds of maps and what they were for.

We discussed the story of Hansel and Gretel and how they laid trails of breadcrumbs and stones to find their way home, and the children made some trails of their own in the playground.

We collected all sorts of interesting objects from the playground and took them back into the classroom to make some detailed drawings and observations...

The children used oil pastels to make big A3 drawings of some of their favourite finds...

The detail in this drawing is lovely and the colours are beautiful.

We learnt about blending and mixing colour.

We also made some line drawings using fine liner pens. This one of a mushroom shows the gills and the way they curve.

Well done 2T - you all made a great start to the project!

5M Tudor Inspired Photography and Drawing

This week 5M made some large collaborative drawings. They also set up a mini photography studio and worked in groups to style each others Tudor-inspired portraits.
They brought in objects that said something about themselves and pleated the ruff they had printed to wear in the photographs. They look fantastic!

5M also made some fabulous large drawings from a collection of still-life objects
We cleared the tables out of the way and worked on the floor

We used charcoal, chalk, rubbers, black pens, and collaged with newspaper.
The drawings are now on display in the main corridor just past Mr Lindique's office. They look fantastic, great work 5M

This week was 5A's turn to make maps and try their hand at printmaking:

They had some wonderful ideas about what their town would look like...
Look closely - there are so many details!

The maps were inspired by Tudor maps and also some modern decorative maps.

5A then designed their own patterns to print onto paper to make Tudor ruffs.

These prints look amazing - well done 5A, lovely work.
2G's last week was great fun and they made some exciting maps of their own containing  some of their memories...

Finally, we have put all the work together to make a huge Map of Found Things.
Well done everyone.
